Traffic changes - Ann Street and Zina Pitcher (Ongoing June 2 - August 3)

Starting June 2 and continuing through August, traffic changes will take place for both the Zina Pitcher Project and the DTE Energy (Gas) projects. The following detours will be in place:

Zina Pitcher Place - Ann Street intersection will be opened to the flow of traffic. Ann Street will support two-way traffic.

Zina Pitcher Place from Ann Street to Catherine will be open with one northbound lane.

Catherine Street from Glen Avenue to Zina Pitcher will be converted back to one-way traffic moving westbound. Only one lane will be open.

Zina Pitcher traffic will be detoured using Ann Street, Observatory Street, Geddes Avenue, Washtenaw Avenue, Huron Street, and Glen Avenue.

Vehicles traveling north on Washtenaw Avenue, intending to go north on Zina Pitcher, will be detoured west on Huron Street, then north on Glen Avenue, then east on Ann Street to the Zina Pitcher intersection.

Vehicles traveling east on Huron Street, intending to go north on Zina Pitcher, will be detoured south on Washtenaw Avenue, then east on Geddes Avenue, then north on Observatory Street, then west on Ann Street to the Zina Pitcher intersection.

Sidewalk closures will occur to provide space for work and to protect the safety of the public. Detours will be posted when a sidewalk closure occurs.

Emergency vehicles are advised to follow the posted detours.

June 2 - June 27:

The intersection of Ann Street at Zina Pitcher will be open to east–west traffic with stop signs.

One lane of Zina Pitcher north of Ann Street will be open to traffic, as well as one to two lanes for westbound Catherine Street to Glen.

June 3 - June 6, DTE Energy (Gas) under a separate project:

Eastbound Ann Street will be closed between the Kahn Family Health Pavilion and the Cardiovascular Center (Observatory roundabout) for up to three days starting Wednesday, June 3.

Please follow posted signs for detour routes provided by the project contractor, should you be traveling eastbound on Ann Street east of Glen Street.

Full Closure - Catherine Street from North Division Street to North State Street (Monday, June 8, 7 a.m. - Monday, June 29, 7 a.m.)

Starting Monday, June 8 at 7 a.m. and continuing through Monday, June 29 at 7 a.m., Catherine Street will be fully closed from North Division Street to North State Street. The closure will accommodate pavement marking removal and replacement on Catherine Street as part of the work to extend the Catherine Street cycle track. The following detours will be in place:

Westbound vehicles traveling on Catherine Street will be detoured south on North State Street, west on East Huron Street, and finally north on North Division Street to Catherine Street.

Emergency vehicles are advised to follow the posted detour.

Sidewalk traffic will be maintained throughout the duration of the closure.

Central Campus

Lane closures - State Street between South University Avenue and East William Street (Thursday, June 4 at 7 am - Thursday, June 11)

Starting Thursday, June 4, through Thursday, June 11, the State Street contractor will be installing permanent markings along State Street (2025 construction project), between South University Avenue and East William Street. Two-way traffic will be maintained via flagging operations. The following detours will be in place:

The northbound transit lane will be closed for part of this duration to place pavement markings. Buses will be routed through traffic lanes along State Street. (June 4 – June 11)

The north and southbound bike lanes will be closed for a portion of this duration for the placement of pavement markings. Cyclists will be required to share the lane with vehicles when bike lanes are closed.

It is recommended to plan ahead and select alternate routes to minimize delays, particularly during peak travel periods. For those who travel through or near the closed section, please drive at slower speeds and use caution to help ensure the safety of construction workers, all motorists, and pedestrians. The city thanks everyone in advance for their patience.
