My name is Ronen Adler and I am a senior at the University of Michigan studying Economics with a Minor in the Environment. When I first got to Michigan I felt lost. I was still determining what I wanted to study, what sort of student organizations I wanted to join, or really what I wanted to do with my life. I tried out a bunch of different courses in my first semester in Ann Arbor. I took political science, English, history, and philosophy courses, but none truly resonated with me. I left the semester no closer to finding my path.

When my second semester came around, I knew I had to be more engaged and curious while attempting to find my track at Michigan. I took Econ 101 and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I was not sure about a major so I decided to take Econ 102 and see what happened. I set up some office hours with my professor for the class, Oleg Zamulin, as I wanted to learn more about what a major in Economics entailed. From that first appointment, he went on to be incredibly helpful in guiding and teaching me about all the exciting doors a degree in Economics can open. Later in my college experience, Professor Zamulin met with me once again and gave me some advice to pair my major with a minor in the Environment, which I had expressed interest in studying. He highlighted the important link between economics and the environment that is pivotal for our future as a society.

Now, sitting in my fourth and final year at the University of Michigan, I look back at how I got to where I am today. My time at Michigan as an Economics Major led me on a path of academic rigor which challenged my understanding of the world around me as well as enhanced my abilities and interests in business. It led me to find a full-time job working in Investment Management in New York City post-graduation doing work that I enjoy. As I look to my future, I plan on utilizing and enhancing the skills and values I picked up along my journey.
