campus in winter

Winter blues got you down? Don’t worry we have a list of some favorite Ann Arbor winter activities that will help you welcome the snow!  After the first big snow, many students like to grab a lunch tray and sled down the hills of north campus or in the hill campus area, and if you’re looking for more of a thrill Huron Hills Golf Course is said to have the best sledding hills in Ann Arbor. We would encourage you to buy a sled but this is a favorite pastime of many students!

Another favorite winter activity is ice skating! Head over to the Yost Ice Arena for a public skate. General times for open skate are: Thursday 8:00pm - 9:50pm, Friday 8:00pm - 9:20pm, Saturday/Sunday 1:00pm - 2:50pm.  However, it is crucial to check the online calendar because there are occasional changes in the open skate times.  Students even get a discounted price on skate rentals and admission!

If the day proves too cold to go outside, head to a local movie theater to catch a flick.  The Michigan and State Theaters are great on- campus options, and other Ann Arbor movie theaters provide student discounts! And at the end of the day when you have to study during these cold winter months, make the walk to your favorite Ann Arbor coffee shop to enjoy a hot drink and a cozy fireplace!

Stay warm,

Alex P

I'm a Creative Writing and Literature major and undecided on a second one. I'm from Hillsdale, Michigan. The thing I love the most about umich is that there is a huge variety of classes available, enough that I really don't know what to do about it. My favorite thing to do is read. My favorite food is ice cream, beyond a doubt. After graduation I'll probably go on to grad school hopefully on a coast where it is warm!
