The Michigan Union is Closed?!
No need to panic--Here’s what you need to know!
The Union is closed from May 2018-Early Winter Semester 2020 for a huge and well deserved renovation! We have the information you need to stay up to date on department/office locations, vendors & food options, apparel & books, and study spots!
Who went where?
Staff in Student Life Auxiliary Marketing has moved to BaitsI/Eaton House and University Unions Maintenance is relocated to the Michigan League Underground. SORC (Student Organization Resource Center) is now relocated to the Michigan League Underground. For more information on where to find departments and units new locations and moving dates visit the Student Life website as well as the University Unions website.
Where can I get food?
Where are all our beloved restaurants moving to? At the moment we don’t know which vendors for sure will be staying with us. However, we do know that there will be a new concept in the Michigan League's Beansters Cafe to include made to order fresh sandwiches and other items as well as rotating vendors. Beansters is closed for renovation and will re-open for Fall 2018. There is now a coffee kiosk in the SAB as well as food trucks near South Quad! In addition, on State Street you can find tons of options for restaurants during your breaks and in between classes as well.
Where is my student org office?
Student org offices in the Michigan Union are vacated as of April 18th. During and after the renovation there will be no physical office space allotted for student organizations. However, once the renovation is completed there will be storage options for student organizations to keep their supplies and banners.
Where do I get books & apparel?
Although the Barnes and Noble in the Michigan Union is not accessible during the renovation, there are still places you can get your books for classes and your apparel for game days! Ulrich's is located on South University is where you can get books for classes as well as on their website. They even have apparel too! If you're interested in more variety of apparel, you can always check out the MDen and the Victors Collection on State Street!
Where can I study?
As you guessed, you can always study in our amazing and state of the art libraries. If that isn't your cup of tea, you can check out of blog post on Study Spots on campus for more options. If those still aren't intriguing, there are cafes all around campus on State Street and South University as well as further downtown on Main Street too!
Because the Union is closed Booking Policies/Room Reservations as well as building hours have been adjusted to accommodate everyone’s needs in the League, Pierpont, and Palmer Commons. You can find this information on the the University Unions website as well as the event calendar to see which events are happening in which buildings.
