Looking for a great way to get involved on campus, enhance your resume, meet a great group of people or just help people out?  MUSIC Matters could be the club for you!

MUSIC (Michigan Undergrads Serving In the Community) Matters is a student organization here on campus that began its mission in 2011 and has been gaining momentum ever since.  It is dedicated to bringing students together, setting goals, organizing fundraising, and orchestrating campus wide events for the community.  Every year, the club hosts a concert in the spring to help raise money for charity.

Two years ago, MUSIC Matters was able to bring J. Cole to campus for a great concert.  As a result, the club was able to raise $10,000 for C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.  This was accomplished after only one official year as an organized student group!  Last year, the club hosted Ben Folds at Hill Auditorium.  The results of this event were recently unveiled, and MUSIC Matters has announced $50,000 to endow a Big Thinkers Scholarship. This is a need-based scholarship that is student funded and pioneered.  This extremely successful student organization has noble goals and determined members who are committed to fostering community and charity within the student body and beyond.

Members are involved with one of many committees within the organization.  These include: Fundraising, Talent & Concert, SpringFest (an annual festival conducted in the spring), University Relations, Publicity & Advertisement, and Charity.  Members have mobility, and club wide meetings give members the opportunity to help out with as many committees as they would like.

MUSIC Matters truly has a passion for community.  They sponsor events throughout the year that focus on bringing people together to enjoy themselves and support a good cause.  These events include fundraising activities such as bar nights and letter writing campaigns, as well as club-wide bonding events such as game nights and dinners.  The club is currently working with Crisler Center to organize fundraising through three Clean-Up nights at Crisler Arena.  Overall, the club sponsors events that bring together members to help better the community.

In addition to being extremely beneficial to the community, MUSIC Matters also does a lot for its members.  The club presents students with great potential for leadership positions and allows members to constantly gain experience in a variety of ways.  It allows students to work with talent agencies, local publicity outlets, professional social media activity, and with professional event coordination and execution.  For those who are more artistic and less interested in handling the business side of things, there are opportunities to design flyers, T-shirts, club paraphernalia, content for websites and so much more.  It truly is a yearlong process of dedication and rewarding work, and the club continues to pay off in big ways.

I'm a Creative Writing and Literature major and undecided on a second one. I'm from Hillsdale, Michigan. The thing I love the most about umich is that there is a huge variety of classes available, enough that I really don't know what to do about it. My favorite thing to do is read. My favorite food is ice cream, beyond a doubt. After graduation I'll probably go on to grad school hopefully on a coast where it is warm!
