Sexual Assault- It’s a difficult topic to talk about, and for too many people, it’s even a difficult topic to define.  As a result, those who have been victims of some sort of sexual misconduct can feel apprehension to seeking help to cope with their experiences, and the general population doesn’t feel a need to educate themselves on the facts of sexual assault.  This is why SAPAC, or the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center, was created on campus.  They offer a wide variety of services that deal with every aspect of sexual assault- their vision statement on their website states that,

SAPAC promotes social change and activism on two levels: through the professional services we provide to the University of Michigan community, and through student leadership development wherein students help students as peers.

Their website features a wide variety of resources including statistics and definitions of different types of sexual misconduct, external resources for victims and for those interested in getting involved with the cause and internal resources provided by SAPAC such as support groups and individualized professional help.

I'm a Creative Writing and Literature major and undecided on a second one. I'm from Hillsdale, Michigan. The thing I love the most about umich is that there is a huge variety of classes available, enough that I really don't know what to do about it. My favorite thing to do is read. My favorite food is ice cream, beyond a doubt. After graduation I'll probably go on to grad school hopefully on a coast where it is warm!
