Fall break: every Wolverine looks forward to this time of year as an opportunity to take a break from classes, catch up on studying, and brag to friends who go to other schools. Here are some tips on how to make your fall break as amazing as it should be.
Going somewhere? The CSG airBus is a cheap means of transportation to and from DTW. For fall break, the airBus will be offering rides to DTW on Thursday and Friday and back to ann Arbor on Tuesday. By making a reservation ahead of time, a ticket to DTW costs only $7! You can still ride the airBus without a reservation for $11, however, you won’t be guaranteed a seat. Upon returning to Ann Arbor, there are no reservations available, all seats are first-come, first-serve. As a currently enrolled UMich student, you can bring up to two non-students on the airBus with you. Plus, all charges are applied directly to your student account when you swipe your MCard upon boarding the bus. Be sure to check out their website to see the full bus schedule and make your reservations!
If the airBus schedule doesn’t suit your needs, you can also try the AirRide, provided by AATA. This costs $12 each way and requires a reservation. The AirRide operates daily and even has a pickup location at CC Little. Find out more about AirRide by clicking here.
Another option for travel that doesn’t involve flying is Megabus. Megabus picks up in Ann Arbor, makes stops in Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Toledo, and offers a variety of travel times and prices. Visit their website to learn more.
If this still doesn’t suit your needs, another fun option is taking the train! You can feel like Harry Potter on your way to Hogwarts, minus the dementors of course. Amtrak offers an extensive selection of destinations at variable prices. Plan your trip on the Amtrak site.
For those of us planning on staying in Ann Arbor, never fear! There are plenty of things to do in the area. Interested in embracing the wonderful Fall-ness of Ann Arbor in October? There are tons of orchards in the surrounding area. Pick some apples, drink some apple cider, go through a corn maize with your friends, the possibilities are endless! If you don’t want to leave campus, take a stroll through the Arb instead; this may be one of our last opportunities to enjoy the outdoors before it’s covered in snow. Feel like going out? Check out a movie or show at the State or Michigan Theatres, The Ark, The Blind Pig, and more!
If you are interested in going to a show, try getting a passport to the arts. This free passport can be used to get free or discounted tickets to several events on campus. Find out how to get one here.
No matter what your plans are for fall break, make sure you take some time to relax so that you can come back refreshed for part two of the semester. Happy trails!
