Having a tough time adjusting to college life? Stressed beyond belief for the MCATS, LSAT, or GRE? Don’t know how to juggle school, friends, and work? Just need a friend to talk with? Want to hang out in awesome massage chairs?
Good news! The University of Michigan Counseling and Psychological Services, or MCAPS, is your on campus one stop shop for help with all the questions above. CAPS is located on the third floor of the Michigan Union and is open Monday through Thursday from 8AM-7PM and on Fridays from 8AM-5PM, but also has a 24 hour emergency hotline. Individual appointments can be made by stopping in and completing a confidential information form, but CAPS offers many other interesting, healthy resources as well! For example, the Wellness Zone, an area inside CAPS with massage chairs, light therapy, and even an XBOX 360, is open the same hours as CAPS and no appointments are necessary. Additionally, every week CAPS puts on four Common Concerns meetings inside CAPS form 4:15PM-5:30PM every Monday-Thursday. All in all, CAPS offers eight different ways to receive clinical services and more examples can be found on their website!
CAPS strives to promote mental health and CAPS is proud of the multiple creative ways of reaching out and assisting members of the UM community. CAPS Mission Statement reads: “The mission of Counseling and Psychological Services is to foster the psychological development and emotional well-being of students through counseling and psychotherapy, preventive and educational programming, consultation and outreach, as well as contributions to the mental health professions. In collaboration with students, schools, colleges, and other units, Counseling and Psychological Services strives to develop a diverse, inclusive and multicultural community.”
